Introducing the Garneau D1
As we prepare for the upcoming 2018 road season - including kicking off the design process - we are facing a difficult decision: to go disc brake or not.
For the past two seasons we have ridden the Garneau A1, an aerodynamic race machine that has served us well while racing across the country. But Garneau has something new in their arsenal that we're considering for 2018: the disc brake equipped Garneau D1:
What makes the D1 so interesting is that it's not a relaxed fit weekend cruiser. It features race oriented geometry that is similar to the A1 that we know and love with the stiffness to match. Though with 28mm rubber as shown in these pictures it should be perfect for winter training and early season racing alike:
All of which makes our disc brake question more difficult. Thankfully Garneau sent us a full fleet of D1 demo bikes that we're going to put through their paces on the streets of New York City in the coming weeks, through sun and snow. Stay tuned to the To Be Determined Journal for much more on these bikes:
A very big thank you also goes to the Rover Cycle Co - New York City's elite mechanical services provider - who took the time to build up the entire demo fleet and delivered the bikes to the team throughout the city. If you haven't used the Rover before head over to their website for more information.

Earlier this year we were one of the first teams to put Garneau’s newly launched Groad collection through its paces at Rasputitsa. Some of our initial impressions from the dirt roads of Vemont and New Hampshire follow.
